A local-first alternative for work that must stay coherent.

Notion is a flexible cloud workspace. Ro takes a different path: it keeps organizational meaning and attention coherent across the tools you use, with native Tasks, Notes, Projects, relationships, and Discussions when they help.

The important difference is the operating model, not a feature scorecard.

Notion’s official documentation says workspace data is backed up in the cloud, while selected pages can be downloaded for offline use in its desktop and mobile apps. It also supports workspace exports in HTML, Markdown, and CSV. Those are useful capabilities inside a cloud-workspace model.

Ro is being built around a different default. A complete local-only Workspace lives on your computer, needs no account or server, remains operational offline, and can later add synchronization when collaboration or multiple devices require it.

Start with business meaning instead of rebuilding it from blocks.

Ro is for people who want flexibility around a serious product model, not a blank database as the product model.

Work

Tasks already understand responsibility and waiting.

A Task can carry assignment, subtasks, blockers, review, Project scope, related records, and attributable history without designing that behavior from properties and templates.

Knowledge

Notes and Discussions have different jobs.

Authored knowledge can stay current while deliberation preserves the question, exchange, and conclusion that shaped it.

Relationships

People and Organizations remain connected to delivery.

Opportunities and Interactions sit beside the Projects, Tasks, Notes, and commitments that make the relationship operational.

Attention

Reasons to return outlast notification delivery.

A review, response, cleared waiting condition, unresolved Discussion, or uncertain agent run remains visible until the underlying matter is handled.

Who should consider Ro, and who should keep Notion.

Keep Notion when its mature collaborative workspace, broad template ecosystem, and flexible page-and-database model are what your work needs today. Ro is not available as a finished replacement yet, and this page does not claim one-click migration.

Consider Ro if the stronger requirement is a complete native local product, stable operational semantics, offline use without preselecting pages, and one shared work model for people and bring-your-own agents. Ro is under active development.
